Backyard Patio: Before & After

Our 1st summer in this backyard and we have 100% lived it up! Last October, when we were looking at homes I told my hubby that I wasn’t willing to pack up and sell our current home unless there was a pool in the backyard of our new one. I loved my last home, we were there for 7 years and it was comfortable and cozy. I know how much I love reinventing myself through decorating and designing our living spaces, but I didn’t think I was up to the task of moving into a place with twice as much space as our last home. Phew! Boy, was I wrong and oh how this has been the perfect 2nd home for our family!

I was thrilled to have a covered patio. In the trenches of Texas summers, it’s miserable to bake in the open sun on a slab of concrete. Here’s a shot of the ‘before’. Great space!

It’s a long rectangle space. To be honest, figuring out how to fill this area wasn’t easy for me. Dining table or conversation sofa seating? We had a dining table in our last backyard and rarely used it. I decided to go with some comfortable, cushioned seats instead. Maybe in the future, I’ll pour another slab of concrete, build a gazebo of some sort, and place a dining set in there. But at this point, I love our kitchen so much I’d rather eat inside. I also didn’t want a long sectional to cover up the windows. I LOVE natural light flooding in to my living room, so a short backrest was on my radar. I’m thrilled with how things turned out! Added a few DIY outdoor curtains, mounted a tv for lazy swimming days, painted a used playset (that cost $50!), and did a german smear on our brick home! We’re not quite finished (per usual ;-)) but I love sharing updates on our progress. I’d still love to paint the trim and siding, swap out the old ceiling fan, and so much more!

I ordered most of the Patio pieces from HAYNEEDLE.COM-

4 Piece Conversation Set– I LOVE this weather-resistant eucalyptus wood set! It comfortably seats 4 with the loveseat sofa, 2 arm chairs, and coffee table. The set also came with 4 navy accent pillows. My favorite part is the open slatted design and was exactly what I was looking for. As soon as it arrived, I sprayed a fabric waterproofing protectant on all the cushions and it’s worked great. On sale for only $433!

Outdoor Rug– This rug is the best I’ve found! If it gets big spills, then I can simply spray it down. It helps keep the dirt off my feet and is very cozy. Even Avery, who can’t stand to walk on grass enjoys her safe spot on the rug. I went with the larger size 8′ x 11′ in the Tan shade.

Wood Chaise Loungers– SO comfy and stylish. I ordered 2 of these for some poolside lounging. The wood is extremely weather-resistant and the cushions are soft and thick. As soon as these arrived, I sprayed them down to protect the fabric. They can fully recline for when I want to flip over on my tummy to watch the kids play on the swing set.

Pineapple Ceramic Planter– The planters are currently out of stock but I found a great side table that has the same look!

Thank you Hayneedle for sponsoring this post! As always, all reviews and opinion are my own. And thank YOU for supporting the brands that help this blog and my family!

Love it! I’ve been on the hunt for patio furniture. Love this set but there are no reviews online for it. How have you liked it?

Where is the play set from/brand and what did you paint it with? It’s gorgeous and exactly what I’ve been looking for!

      Hi Alena,

We bought it used off of Facebook marketplace from someone local who was selling theirs because they were moving. My husband removed the plastic pieces and painted the wood to make it looks almost new. I’ve tried to find this exact one online and I’m not sure that they sell it anymore. You can get great deals on used ones if you keep an eye out on the marketplace! We paid less than $100 for ours. Best of luck!

I actually found it used on a local FB group garage sale site. It’s been discontinued, such a bummer!

How do you protect the TV from the weather?

Hi Chrissy! Thankfully, it hasn’t been an issue yet. It’s far enough under the porch that the rain never hits it, even when it’s really windy.

Hi! Love your backyard. I have been looking for an outdoor rug like that! I see you mentioned you bought the tan one. When clicking on the link the rug looks like a darker tan, but the rug in your beautiful picture looks like an almost grayish tan. Love it! Is it just my eyes/my screen that makes the product listing look a darker tan and it is more like the light color you have when the rug is seen in person? Love the lighter look.
